2011Gators Head To Last-Chance Meets

The University of Florida track and field teams will send its athletes to a pair of last-chance meets this weekend – the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., and the Virginia Tech Qualifier in Blacksburg, Va. – to make a last push towards qualifying for the upcoming NCAA Indoor Championships, which take place March 11-12 in College Station, Texas.

Florida will send its women’s 4x400-meter relay team to the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., trying to hit the NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 3:34.00. The Gators ran their fastest time since 2005 at the SEC Indoor Championships last weekend, clocking a 3:35.79. The quartet consists of Ebony Eutsey (Miami, Fla.), Lanie Whittaker (Miami, Fla.), Danielle Williams (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Ugonna Ndu (Newark, N.J.). That event will take place at 2 p.m. ET Saturday.

Eutsey also will look to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the women’s 400-meter dash, individually as well. She will run the 400-meter dash at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday.

Junior Florida jumper Christian Taylor (Fayetteville, Ga.), who already has automatically-qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the men’s triple jump, will look to hit the auto mark in the long jump, competing in that event at 12 p.m. ET Saturday in Blacksburg, Va.

Senior sprinter Terrell Wilks (New Haven, Conn.), who has a season-best time of 6.64 in the men’s 60-meter dash, will try to shave 0.4 seconds off his time to meet the NCAA automatic-qualifying time of 6.60, when he competes in the event at 12:30 p.m. ET Saturday. Hurdler Jarius Cooper (Palm Coast, Fla.) and 200-meter runner Leonardo Seymore (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) also will attempt to qualify in their respective events on Saturday at Virginia Tech.
